Anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare accused the government of betraying him repeatedly on the issue of Lokpal. He also said that the government had betrayed him on Lokpal and the Prime Minister did not keep his word he had given him when he had broken his fast at Ramlila Maidan. He called the Lokpal bill as passed by the cabinet on Thursday as completely ineffective and rejected it.

Criticising the government for not including provision for setting up of Lokayukatas in states, not including the CBI or CVC and also excluded lower rung bureaucracy from it, Hazare said that he has started his nationwide tour and would make people aware about the betrayal he had got from the government on Lokpal.

‘The Government has been betraying us and people of the country repeatedly....If required I will go back to Ramlila Maidan to demand a strong and effective Lokpal Bill,’ he said adding that he was tired of frequent changes in the bill and that ‘This Government lies a lot. What will happen to a country whose government lies so much?’

Demanding making CBI and CVC as independent bodies on par with Election Commission, he said the fight against corruption will not be effective if government did not relinquish its control over CBI and CVC.

‘Corruption has increased because of government’s control over CBI and CVC,’ he said sitting with former Army chief Gen V K Singh and talking to media.

He accused the Prime Minister of not keeping his words on the lokpal bill. Hazare had agreed to break his 12-day long fast in Aug 2011 after the Parliament had agreed to his three key demands. Hazare wanted the lower bureaucracy to be brought under the purview of the Lokpal, Lokayuktas in the states be brought under the Lokpal, and a citizen’s charter for government departments.
