Before the crowd dispersed, one of them reportedly put a lock on the gate of the police station locking police officials inside the station premises.

According to a source, a crowd of 40 to 50 agitated locals had gathered outside the Mayur Vihar police station on Friday evening protesting against police inaction in curbing lawlessness.

‘The crowd was led by BJP councillor, Sandhya Verma, who entered into an argument with the police officials over their alleged failure in reaching the crime spot on time, where a chain snatcher had allegedly stabbed a man when the victim got hold of him after he snatched his wife’s chain at pocket 4 of Mayur Vihar Phase I,’ said the source.

‘By the time the crowd dispersed after protesting for more than an hour, someone put a lock on the gate of the police station with the Station House Officer and other officials inside the premises,’ he added.

Police ruled out all allegations and said that the crowd had dispersed soon after they were assured by a senior official that the police are doing their best. The concerned police officials also refused to comment on the argument with the councillor and the act of the gate being locked by one of the protesters.
