Ambedkar meets Gandhi on src stage

We live in a society of extremes these days. Find about about the extremes through a play. Ambedkar aur Gandhi, a socio-political play, will be presented by the Asmita Theatre group.
 
The play shows a debate between Gandhi and Ambedkar and talks about the geopolitical and social scenario in the country from two extreme points of view. The play is a political dialogue on the social concerns of our feudal society. It showcases the conflicting thoughts of two political stalwarts with similar aim but different means.

Says actor Gaurav Mishra, who enacts the role of Gandhi: ‘It has been the most challenging role so far. My mind played like a time machine. To think like him, his body language, upgrade my thinking abilities like him have been my priority throughout besides reading about him. My director  Arvind Gaur also helped me get into the character.’

The issue of the upliftment of Harijans and the plight of Dalits is a significant thread expressed in the play.

‘Ambedkar, the fiery man, let out his ideology through his candid nature. His outspoken personality with a never-sit-idle attitude triggered me to justify the role. It’s very close to my heart as I comprehend his opinions and ideology towards life,’ says Bajrang Bali Singh who plays the role of Ambedkar.

‘This play operates at many levels to show the multiple layers of the thought processes of both the leaders and brings about the multi-layered confrontations due to the differences between them. This kind of bold theatre forces us to rethink about our make belief comfortable history and breaks our pre-conceived socio - political notions,’ says Arvind Gaur, the director of the play.
