According to sources, all the Joint Commissioners, Additional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners of North and South Zone have been instructed to do foot-patrolling in their concerned jurisdictions. The North Zone comprises Central, Outer, East, North-East, North and North-West districts whereas, the remaining districts — South, South-West, West, New Delhi, Central fall under the South Zone. Verma himself has started doing surprise patrolling to review the ground reality. Also, he has instructed the traffic department to remain on field during peak hours.

The officials have been instructed to be on the field in their uniform and are likely to visit random houses to get feedback. Also, the senior officials are instructed to keep extra vigil during dark hours and they have been asked to submit a detailed report on the vulnerable routes, dark stretches and crime trends in the area.

Also, the patrolling schedule and routes of the patrolling vans and motorbikes have been reviewed by the concerned senior officials and the numbers of vehicles have been increased during the dark hours. Monthly review of the report will be taken by the Special Commissioners and the officer himself will study and analyse the reports and accordingly he will take action to curb crime.

A senior police official told  Millennium Post that special emphasis has been laid upon quick reaction time and effective patrolling of PCRs and Riders (instructions have been imparted to their staff not to remain stationary at a given point for more than 20 minutes at a stretch). The new patrolling schedule has been charted out for ensuring safety of women and beefing up the security of educational institutions, banks, petrol pumps, parks, markets, malls, vital installations and other places of high footfall.

“Complainants must be satisfied by the cops and the constables, head constables, sub-inspectors have been asked to go easy with them. A new text message format has been made that will provide them the numbers of concerned investigating officer and inspector of the police station so that the complainant could take the update of the case,” said a police official, quoting the latest instruction.

Also, letters have been written to the concerned authorities for increasing lighting arrangements at places which are covered in darkness after sunset, which render security of women and children at risk during evening hours and increase the chances of committing of other crimes too.
