In a high-voltage drama that lasted for nearly eight hours, five-year-old son of a Deputy Manager working with a private firm was rescued from the clutches of kidnappers on Tuesday. Police have claimed that hours after the kidnapping attempt, the culprits, fearing arrest, dumped the boy in the outskirts of Greater Noida and fled in a van. A manhunt has been launched for the absconding accused and further probe is on, said police.

Police said the boy was kidnapped around 8 pm on Monday by two bike-borne criminals when he was playing outside his residence in Delta-II of Greater Noida. The kidnappers, who had taken stock of the entire locality, took him away on a bike, asking others not to raise an alarm.

The family made a PCR call and senior police officials rushed to the spot. Understanding the gravity of the incident, police blocked the entire area within an hour.

Police added that in order to keep a tab on every suspicious movement, officials in civil dresses were deployed in the vicinity of the victim’s house. Phone numbers of the victim’s family were also put on surveillance. CCTV footages of the area were scanned and people known to the family were questioned.

Around 4 am, the cops received a call and it was informed that a child has been dumped near Tilpata village. On reaching the spot, the police took possession of the child from the locals.

The boy was later identified as Krishna, who had been kidnapped by two bike-borne men. Police claimed that the victim, during inquiry, revealed that the kidnappers had kept moving with him in a car all night.

“Noida Police conduct checking drives between 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm at various locations in the city everyday. It was because of this that the criminals could be prevented from running away with the child. The policemen, deployed at various junctions, were asked to check for vehicles carrying a child. Help was also sought from neighbouring police stations that forced the kidnappers to leave the boy and flee,” said Sanjay Kumar Gupta, Superintendent of Police (Rural).
