With an aim to develop the dairy sector in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday announced interest free loan to the farmers for purchasing milching animals.

'The Samajwadi Party government is committed to improve the financial status of the farmers and thus will give interest free loans to purchase cows and buffaloes so that they can contribute for the development of dairy sector of the state,' he said.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a modern dairy plant here, which will process over 5 lakh liters of milk daily, Yadav said that this project would be completed before the coming Lok Sabha elections.

He also blamed the previous Mayawati government for the backwardness of the state and held the BSP government responsible for the power crisis that had recently crippled the northern grid.

Announcing that his government would get rid of brokers or middlemen involved in purchasing of foodgrains from farmers at low rates and then selling it at high prices in the retail market, the CM said that the farmers should get good price for their produce.

Talking about the development in the dairy sector in the state, the Chief Minister claimed that the new plant would benefit farmers directly. He said that it was unfortunate that while private dairy companies were earning huge profits, the government owned organisations were suffering losses.

Yadav also assured that his government would soon pay Rs 55 crore in pending dues of the farmers for milk supplied to the government dairies. 'We will start a new system to pay daily to the farmers on their milk supply,' he added.

The CM also said that his government was trying to generate new jobs by setting up new industries besides providing unemployment allowances that would be distributed from 9 September onwards.

UP animal husbandry minister Parasnath Yadav said that the White Revolution is a good option to improve the financial condition of the farmers in the state. Agriculture Production Commissioner(APC) Alok Ranjan gave details of the project that after completion will produce 2 lakh liter of milk and another 3 lakh liter of milk would be processed to make powder milk. The plant will also produce 10 tonne of ghee, 5 tonne of white butter, 25 tonnes of curd and ice-cream on a daily basis.

The project will benefit the 2.15 lakh farmers of 4862 dairy committees of Lucknow, Ambedkarnagar, Barabanki, Bahriach, Hardoi, Balrampur, Basti, Sultanpur, Rae Bareli, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur,Shravasti, Jalaun, Gonda, Unnao, Lakhimpur Kheri and Fatehpur districts.
