Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav completed one year in office on Friday, which witnessed government’s efforts to start development of the state by launching people-oriented schemes.
Despite getting a thumping majority in the last assembly elections the going was not so smooth for the Akhilesh Yadav government. The problems like power crisis, poor quality of roads and deterioration in law and order situation were like an ugly wart.
‘The law and order situation is improving. Much more needed to be done. But I can say that the situation is much improved than what it was during BSP regime,’ Akhilesh Yadav said.
It was the hard talk that worked because when SP came to power there were apprehension of return of goonda raj in UP. He sent a strong message among party workers to mend their ways and it worked.
The party’s image got a battering when MLAs’ supporters opened fire during victory processions killing one in Bareilly. In another case a minister was seen coming to railway station riding a horse while in another a minister was accused of abducting a CMO.
This year witnessed spurt in communal clashes as 27 such incidents were reported till February end. The brutal killing of DSP in Pratapgarh did give a body blow to the government’s image.
