AK-67 not to accept Z-Plus security cover

Update: 2015-02-12 23:41 GMT
Within 24 hours of being assured Z-plus security cover by Delhi Police, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) denied that its Chief Ministerial candidate Arvind Kejriwal would need the topmost security arrangement for his protection.

On Wednesday, AAP spokesperson Nagendra Sharma, said that whatever security arrangement Kejriwal enjoys currently is sufficient for him and he doesn’t need any security arrangement beyond that.

Presently, around 22 Armed Police personnels (Commandos) of Delhi Police are deployed in Kejriwal’s security.

Also, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday enhanced the security around Kejriwal’s residence in Ghaziabad’s Kaushambi area to around 40 personnels and two escort vehicles from the present arrangement of 12 police personnels and an escort vehicle of UP police, said a source.

Soon after AAP witnessed a massive win on Tuesday, Delhi Police assured Z-plus security to Arvind Kejriwal. Under Z-plus category, the protectee gets as many as 36 security personnel protecting him/her round-the-clock.

“The security cover will be put into effect as soon as Kejriwal takes charge as the leader of the legislative party. As per protocol, Delhi Chief Minister enjoys Z category cover due to a constant threat perception and the number of men on duty could go up,” said a highly-placed source in police.
Earlier, after becoming CM in December 2013, Kejriwal had rejected Z-category security cover by Delhi Police.
