A 35-year-old private airlines employee was stabbed to death allegedly for opposing some unidentified men who were eve-teasing a young girl in south-west’s Palam area. The accused are absconding.
The incident took place on late Wednesday night at approximately 10.15 pm, when Manoj Kumar Sharma was returning to his residence in Palam Village. Mid-way when Sharma reached the street adjacent to his residence, he was stabbed twice by three unknown men on a motor-cycle.
Locals told police that at street no. 40, they saw three persons were following a girl and had started passing lewd comments on her. She did not react and tried to save her by walking fast. When Sharma saw the episode, he could not control himself so he raised an alarm and opposed the act.
Sharma’s behaviour allegedly annoyed those on the motor-cycle, and they stabbed him to death. Meanwhile when both the parties were indulged in the scuffle, the girl preferred to escape. After having a heated argument and stabbing Sharma, the trio managed to flee. A passerby made a PCR call informing about the incident.
A team then reached the spot and immediately rushed Sharma to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead. Sharma received two stab injuries, with one on his chest and the other on his back. Excess blood loss is alleged to be the cause of his death. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and an autopsy report is awaited.
However, according to police, the motive behind the murder is some personal enmity with the absconding accused. However, the family has denied any enmity with anyone. The locals on the other hand are claiming that the deceased opposed eve-teasing, as a result he was stabbed.
On the basis of the allegations made by the locals, the girl, alleged to be the eye-witness to the incident, is being traced. She reportedly is a resident of the same colony who came to recharge her mobile phone during the incident. The shopkeeper has been questioned to gather the information about the identity of the girl.
