Update: 2016-09-22 23:42 GMT
According to a senior police officer of the East district, they have arrested Ritu’s father-in-law, Ghanshyam Singh Bangoti (69) and her mother-in-law, Leena Bangoti (63). “In the meantime, the concerned court will decide the custody of the two-year-old daughter, Divyanshi.”

On September 16, Ritu Bangoti, a senior resident doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences allegedly committed suicide at her residence in East Delhi’s IP Extension area. She had injected a poisonous substance in her body through a syringe.

As per the allegations levelled by Bangoti’s father, DS Bhandari, Ritu was physically harassed and mentally tortured by her husband, Brijesh Bangoti, a pilot with Air India. A day after Ritu committed suicide, Delhi Police had arrested Brijesh under relevant sections of the IPC at the Madhu Vihar police station, said police.

Family members of Dr Ritu Bangoti had also alleged that she was not allowed by her husband and in-laws to meet her two-year-old daughter, Divyanshi. Devi Singh Bhandari, Ritu’s father had said that the incident came to light at around 1.30 pm on Thursday when his son-in-law, Brijesh, called Ritu’s brother at their Kurmanchal Apartment flat alleging that Ritu had locked herself in her room.

A suicide note left behind by Dr Ritu was also allegedly torn into pieces by her in-laws and found flushed in the toilet tank, alleged her family.
