The All India Bar Association (AIBA) has raised serious objection against the selection of Kerala Governor, Justice P. Sathasivam, for the post of Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
It was learnt that Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, present NHRC Chairperson, will be demitting office next month and the government is planning to appoint Justice Sathasivam to head the commission. The AIBA has urged President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to consider his name for the post. In a representation sent to the President and Modi, the AIBA Chairman Adish C. Aggarwala, alleged that Justice Sathasivam has a history of misuse of office by illegally procuring land from Tamil Nadu government for his close relatives including his mother-in-law of his son and ultimately the land transferred to his daughter in law.
