Women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi on Wednesday said legal action will be taken against organisations which do not have committees to address sexual harassment at workplace.
‘Anybody who does not have a committee on sexual harassment at workplace will have to face legal action,’ said Maneka Gandhi at a press conference. She was replying to a question on several organisations not having a committee to address sexual harassment at workplace. She also spoke about setting up ‘Nirbhaya centres’ for women in distress, adding, ‘Consultations are at an advanced stage and they will be established in a phased manner.’ She explained,’These centres will be integrated with women helpline 181.
If we can get Nirbhaya centres and women’s helpline up and running quickly, more than 50 percent of the problem would be solved.’ 330 of the 660 planned centres will come up by March 2015.
