‘Accused identified in Rs 8 crore Lajpat Nagar robbery, arrests to follow soon’
Four days after the Rs eight crore robbery near Moolchand flyover, Delhi police have identified all the accused and are likely to arrest them on Saturday.
According to sources in Delhi police department, ‘The main kingpin has been identified as a 35-year-old man with a criminal history. He is a resident of south Delhi’s Madangiri area. After the robbery, all the accused stayed at his residence and a day after the incident the other accused changed their hide-outs.’
The armed assailants, who robbed Rajesh Kumar Kalra, a Delhi-based businessman who was charge-sheeted in Hansie Cronjie match fixing case, managed to escape in a gray coloured car.
‘After leaving the Wagon R car on the crime scene, the robbers drove off in their Hyundai Verna.
They also looted Kalra’s Honda City too. The gray car was waiting at the end of Defence Colony flyover and when the accused, who fled in Verna car, drove off in it leaving Verna behind. Later other assailants were picked up from Barapullah flyover where they left the Honda City,’ a source added.
While escaping the robbers kept the money in bags that they were carrying and left the empty bags in the Honda City. They chose Barapullah flyover, source said, due to less traffic on that stretch even during peek hours. ‘Delhi police is very close to the culprits and are likely to crack the case by Saturday or Sunday. We will recover the entire robbed money that belongs to Kalra,’ he added.
Also, few persons close to Kalra including his staff members might be arrested as the investigative teams are smelling a rat in the revelations made by the driver and the employees who were travelling with Kalra on Tuesday.
‘Wife of one of the accused has been detained by Delhi police. She knew about the robbery plan. She has helped the investigating teams to identify all the accused and told them about the place where the robbed amount has been kept,’ a source said.
