It seems Amrit Kaur (30), the acid attack survivor, had blindly trusted her friend-cum-colleague Ashok Yadav (32) and did not have an iota of doubt about his real intentions. Yadav, who was the mastermind of the attack, enjoyed a very cordial relationship with the victim who trusted him completely. This is perhaps the main reason why she made the first distress call to the accused who had planned the entire acid attack on her.
During interrogation, it was learnt that after the acid attack, Yadav received a call from one Abhishek Jaitley, who had initially taken the victim to a nearby nursing home. “Abhishek informed him that someone had thrown acid on Amrit and the hospital staff is not admitting her for treatment. She asked Abhishek to call Yadav at the spot so that he could take him to some other hospital,” a police official said.
Within seven minutes, Yadav reached the nursing home at Rajouri Garden where Amrit introduced him to Abhishek as one of her relatives. She narrated the incident to him and he took her to ESI hospital, where the duo were working, in his white SX4 car.
However, the authorities at ESI refused to admit her and referred her to AIIMS. Yadav then took her to AIIMS where her family members were already there. A police team who rushed to the crime scene was late to reach the hospital as they first reached the spot then the nursing home, ESI hospital and finally AIIMS.
According to a police official: “Before the team reached AIIMS, Yadav left the hospital.”
The incident took place on Tuesday when Amrit was on her way to the hospital on her white-coloured scooty. Two juveniles piling on a motorcycle approached her and threw acid on her face with a syringe. On Thursday, Yadav who is a doctor by profession was arrested along with his co-accused, Vaibhav.
Further, the two juveniles were also arrested. Yadav, in the recent past had proposed Amrit for marriage but she refused as she was getting engaged to someone else. In a bid to teach her a lesson, Yadav planned the act and hired the juveniles in lieu of Rs 25,000, with the help of his friend.
