Accident victim’s family gets Rs 17.84 lakh compensation

The family of a former Army jawan, who had died in a road mishap involving a rashly-driven Haryana roadways bus, was given a compensation of Rs 17.84 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.

The MACT asked the New India Assurance Company Limited, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay the sum to former Army personnel Brahm Prakash’s family members, including his widow, three children and his 75-year-old mother. ‘Total compensation payable to the petitioners (Prakash’s wife, three children and his mother) would be Rs 17,84,000...

‘Insurance company has not proved any defence. Therefore, compensation is to be deposited by insurance company which be deposited within 30 days from the date of juidgement...,’ said MACT presiding officer Arun Bhardwaj.

The MACT order came on a plea by the family members of Brahm Prakash, who met the accident on February 17, 2011 while going from Lisana village to Gokulgarhon in Haryana along with his friend Pandit Leela Ram on a two wheeler.

The accident took place as a Haryana roadways bus coming on the wrong side from Rewari hit Brahm Prakash’s two wheeler and he sustained multiple fractures in the mishap.

Prakash, 48, was rushed to a hospital where he died a few days later.
