The Delhi Police on Friday, rescued an employee of a Gujarat-based businessman who was kidnapped from Uttar Pradesh (UP) and transported to Bharatpur, Rajasthan. The victim, identified as Kuntal Patel had come in contact with one Deepak Jain over the internet for a week.

“During their discussion, Deepak Jain had told him that he deals in plastic granules and scrap, which he supplies at cheaper rates in Kosi, UP. He further asked Kuntal to visit Kosi if he was interested in purchasing the material,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Operations) Ranveer Singh.

Consequently, Kuntal flew to Delhi from Gujarat and reached Kosi Kalan, UP by a Taxi from the pre-paid booth at the IGI Airport, Delhi. At Kosi, he met Deepak Jain, who was present along with his associates.

They drove him in their car (Swift) to Kama in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan on the pretext of showing him the material, police said. “As soon as he got into their car, the kidnappers told him that they have no plastic scrap and that he was being kidnapped, asking him to arrange for Rs 10 lakh from his owner as ransom,” said Singh.

Accordingly, the victim spoke to his employer Rajiv Ramchand Sabnani in Ahmedabad and asked him to arrange for Rs 10 lakh for his immediate release. On hearing this, Sabnani rushed to Delhi by flight and lodged a complaint with the IGI Airport Police Station. A case was thus registered and the investigation was taken up.

During the probe, the investigating team received information through reliable sources that the victim was kidnapped from Delhi and taken to some unknown place in Bharatpur. The victim was in touch with his employer through his mobile phone.
