AAP’s SC/ST wing protests outside BJP headquarters

Update: 2016-06-12 23:09 GMT
The protest had taken place after Rakesh Kumar, a Dalit Councillor of AAP was manhandled and abused by BJP Councillors.

The AAP alleged that the anti-dalit mindset of the BJP was manifested in broad daylight in the Ramlila Maidan on Thursday when the BJP Councillors  abused Rakesh Kumar. During the meeting at Ramlila Maidan, the AAP MLAs were not allowed to speak and those who insisted were manhandled.

The AAP and the BJP Councillors came into blow after an argument took place between them over passing the resolution of slamming the Kejriwal government for not giving funds to the three MCDs (Municipal Corporations of Delhi). The debate turned uglier when BJP Councillors objected to AAP members for wearing caps at the session.

The demonstration was held outside the national headquarters of the BJP at Ashoka Road and was attended by AAP MLAs as well on Saturday. Addressing the protestors during the occasion, the Convener of the SC/ST wing of the party MLA Rajendra Gautam said: “BJP has an anti-Dalit mindset and it has shown it time and again.

BJP always wants to divide the society into castes and religion. By hurting the sentiments of the Dalit community, BJP has further proved their ant-Dalit mindset.”

Earlier Dilip Pandey, AAP’s Delhi unit convener claimed this attack was an act of “murder of human right”.
Kumar in his complaint alleged that he was not only manhandled but was also hurled with “castiest abuses”. He even demanded protection from the BJP councillors. He further alleged that ever since the BJP has come to power, attacks on Dalits and minorities have “increased”.

The AAP has demanded for a proper protection and requested the SC Commission of India to take action against the perpetrators of crime against the AAP Councillor.

The guilty should be punished. The AAP will continue to fight the anti-Dalit mindset of any political dispensation without fear.
