The AAP on Thursday said it will approach a higher court against the magistrate’s decision to send its leader Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody in a defamation case. The party said that it will launch an awareness campaign to remind the people about the involvement of former BJP president Nitin Gadkari in mega land scams and his attempts to provide favours to private companies in Maharashtra.
Senior AAP leader and prominent lawyer Prashat Bhushan said in a press conference: ‘We told the court that it is not necessary to have a bail bond for those who are ready to give an undertaking that they will remain present for court proceedings. We will highlight the facts before the court on Friday. Many poor people are stuck in the jail because they cannot provide the bail bond.’
Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, ‘Narendra Modi called Arvind Kejriwal, an agent of Pakistan, but no FIR was lodged against him.’ He further said that AAP will not allow any political leader involved in corruption to escape public scrutiny and the party stands behind the principle taken by Kejriwal in the fight against corruption.
‘We will approach a higher court against the order issued by the district court which sent Kejriwal to judicial custody,” said Singh after meeting Kejriwal in the Tihar Jail.
AAP leaders and Kejriwal’s wife Sunita met the former Delhi chief minister in prison. A court Wednesday sent him to judicial custody for two days after he refused to furnish a bail bond of Rs.10,000 in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, whom Kejriwal called ‘corrupt’.
