Taking its February 7 election campaign against the BJP to a decisive level, the AAP on Saturday released its 70-point agenda promising full statehood, making the city a trading hub and lower power tariff, even as Arvind Kejriwal accused the saffron party for “shying away” from the people.
On the other hand, the BJP will not be releasing a manifesto for Delhi polls and will only release a “vision document.” “The BJP is shying away from making any promises as they had not fulfilled any of the promises they had made at the time of the 2014 Lok Sabha election,” Kejriwal said.
“What to say about fulfilling promises, BJP has not taken any step in that direction,” he added. The AAP supremo said the BJP’s claim that people of Delhi do not want full statehood was wrong. In the manifesto, the AAP has promised to enhance women’s safety by installing around 10-15 lakh CCTV cameras, open 20 new colleges and 500 government schools, making available clean drinking water at an affordable price and a free wi-fi zone, among others.
The AAP manifesto gave a distinct road map of creating more employments. “We wish to make Delhi as trade, tourist, education and service hubs. This will help in generating more employment in the city,” said Kejriwal. The former Chief Minister further said that passing of the Jan Lokpal bill and Swaraj bills would be on the priority list of the party.
Emphasising on women’s security, Kejriwal said: “We want every woman to feel safe and secure. Over 10-15 lakh CCTV cameras will be installed across the Capital in this regard. A security guard will be deployed in every government bus.”
He said the AAP manifesto containing 70 points action plan would be implemented soon after the party comes to power as it had done in the earlier 49-days of rule after December 2013 polls. The power tariff will be reduced by 50 per cent, he added. Kejriwal further said that Modi-led-BJP government has “failed” to deliver.
“The BJP had talked of bringing down the prices but they are rising unabated. They had also talked of bringing down the rate of electricity charges but the same has been hiked twice since they had come to power,” he said. With regard to the Congress, Kejriwal said in its 15-years of rule in the national Capital, the party had released three manifestos in which they it had made tall claims but sadly most of their promises failed to see the light of the day.
