AAP puts the ball in people’s court, seeks view on govt formation

‘We will not form government if there is even a minor difference between ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ of Delhiites. We will form the government only if there is an overwhelming support in favour of the move. A tie situation will mean no government formation,’ said Kejriwal, adding that 51 per cent ‘Yes’ and ‘49’ per cent ‘No’ means no for him.

Kejriwal accepted that there were differences of opinion even within the party over the issue and clearly mentioned it in his letter to the public. The people have been asked to register their views through SMSes, phone calls, Facebook and online voting on AAP’s official website latest by Sunday.

Apart from this, AAP’s 28 elected MLAs and 42 defeated candidates will conduct public meetings in each of the municipal wards of their assembly segments. Thus, a total 270 meetings will be held in the city. Apart from that 25 lakh letters are to be distributed among people to get a sense of public mood on the issue. ‘We will compile the data and send a report to the Lieutenant Governor (Najeeb Jung) on the outcome of the public response with our comments on Monday,’ said Kejriwal.

‘Congress is a very clever party. They can pull down my government for any minor reason if and when it suits them,’ said Kejriwal in his letter. ‘They can dethrone AAP by just saying this man coughs too much,’ he wrote. In the two-page letter, Kejriwal also flayed BJP for playing ‘dirty politics’.

‘I am confused as some of my colleagues are in favour of government formation to counter the charge of ‘irresponsibility’ and save the city from re-poll while some others want to maintain an equal distance from both these parties,’ added Kejriwal.
