Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party on Monday launched a cleanliness drive in the national Capital as the sanitation workers continue to strike work over pending salaries.
Many AAP MLAs across the city wielded brooms along with their supporters in a symbolic show of solidarity with the residents of east Delhi who are facing a severe garbage crisis. Nearly 12,000 sanitaion workers of East Delhi Municipal Corporation have shunned their work since March 27 demanding a full payment of dues.
“The BJP-ruled MCD has failed. So the AAP has taken the charge,” party MLA from Karawal Nagar said, accusing the saffron party of civic failures in the city. Launching the cleanliness drive at Guruteg Bahadur Hospital Chowk in east Delhi, AAP legislator from Rohtas Nagar said the drive is against the BJP-led Union government, and not the sanitation workers.
The ruling AAP had recently refused to bail out cash-strapped municipal corporations, saying that the Centre has refused Rs600 crore in grant to the local bodies in the city. Throwing a word of caution to its supporters, the AAP said: “BJP’s MCD’s poor and ineffective governance has been exposed by AAP on umpteen occasions.
