AAP eyes one crore members by 26 January, kicks off nationwide drive

The AAP on Friday launched a free national membership drive called ‘Main bhi Aam Aadmi’, with chief minister Arvind Kejriwal saying the party wanted to enrol 10 million people by 26 January.

‘We have a target of one crore membership by 26 January ,’ Kejriwal told the media, adding 300,000 applications had been received online. This special membership drive would end on the Republic Day.

From now on, the membership would be free. Earlier, people had to pay Rs 10 to become a member.

‘From now on, no one will have to pay a single penny to become a member of AAP,’ said Kejriwal, who led the Aam Aadmi Party to a spectacular showing in the Delhi election and became the chief minister 28 December. The AAP, founded just over a year ago, has seen a dramatic surge in membership since it took power in Delhi. The party says some 15,000 people are joining it across the country daily.

An SMS can be sent or a missed call can be given on 077982 20033, one can register on the AAP web site, go to a membership camp or fill up a form attaching a copy of the voter ID.

‘If anyone wants to become an AAP member through SMS, the individual will have to send his name, STD code and name of his constituency,’ said Kejriwal.

He said AAP volunteers would hold camps in various parts of the country so that the people do not have to struggle to become AAP’s member.

AAP needs Rs 124 crore for polls, seeks funds from ‘genuine’ sources


New Delhi: In a bid to fight the coming Lok Sabha election, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ready to stretch its wings and looking for all possible genuine sources of funding. The party has not ruled out the funding from the honest corporate house who wish to change the corrupt political system. The party needs around Rs 124 crore on average to fight the Lok Sabha election in 309 seats.

According to the party sources, AAP is getting around Rs. 20 lakh per day from the supporters across the globe. ‘If the same pace of donation will go on, then we will collect around Rs. 16 crore approximately till March end,’ said a party sources on the condition of anonymity. Donations is coming from India, the US, UAE, Singapore, Britain and Canada.

Meanwhile the party leader Yogedera Yadav said earlier that numbers of corporate houses are eager to know about AAP’s economy policy. ‘There are good people in corporate houses who are keen for the positive change and they want to contribute for the society. They want to know about our economic policy. We will let the corporate world to know about our economic policy in coming few weeks,’ said Yadav.

A party sources further said that there are corporate house who are keeping an eye on the political development, they want to contribute for the country, but have lost their faith due to corrupt system. They consider AAP as a better option compare to Congress and BJP to counter the corruption.
