AAP confident of getting majority in Delhi polls

Update: 2015-01-13 23:45 GMT
AAP spokesperson Raghva Chadha said Kejriwal will take oath as the chief minister on February 14 (Valentine Day) at the Ramlila Maidan after securing majority.

“We are sure of getting a majority. The AAP is contesting election on a positive campaign and has a blue print for Delhi.

“On February 14, Arvind Kejriwal will be Delhi’s Valentine and he will take oath as the chief minister,” Chadha said. Incidentally, on February 14 last year, Kejriwal quit as the chief minister and the AAP, if voted to power, will be keen on assuming office on the same day. “We are already in the field and campaigning. I have visited every area several times already,” said Saurabh Bhardwaj, the then transport minister in AAP government.

Senior AAP leader and political affairs committee member Sanjay Singh said polling date was announced after a “year-long wait”.

Both BJP and Congress now have a tight schedule to declare the candidates list. Congress, motivated by AAP, has however, declared first list of 24 candidates on January 2 while BJP has not even started the process formally. “Our leaders are campaigning. BJP generally declares its candidates’ list a couple of days before the last date of filing nominations. We have our own strategies and are not carried away by others,” said Satish Upadhyay, Delhi BJP president. He also claimed a successful rally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ramlila  ground last Saturday.

“We don’t fear elections as we are like students who studies throughout the year unlike others who study only during examination,” he added.
