Around 15 workers were injured in the clash, an SUV was set on fire and both the parties registered complaints against each other at Govindpuri police station in south-east Delhi.
During a television debate at the DDA Park in Tughlakabad area, an argument between both the parties took place on the increasing crime graph. BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri was representing his party, while AAP candidate Sahi Ram was representing his party’s side on the debate. After the show got over the participants of both parties were returning home but mid-way a clash between the duo parties broke out.
Speaking to Millennium Post, Ramesh Bidhuri said, “Four workers of BJP, identified as Amit, Vivek, Anuj and Sandeep were returning home when the volunteers of AAP attacked them. All four of them who are in their early twenties received fractures in arms and legs. They are undergoing treatment at Batra Hospital.”
However, AAP has a different story to tell that alleges that a mob led by the Bidhuri’s nephew attacked the AAP volunteers. “Armed with sharp weapons, they attacked the AAP volunteers, who were participating in the TV programme and inflicted serious injuries on them without any provocation. At least 10 volunteers had to be taken to the AIIMS trauma centre for treatment and preparation of their medico-legal reports,” AAP claimed.
AAP further alleged that the SUV car of Sahi Ram was burnt by the family members and hired goons of Bidhuri. But Bidhuri denied to buy the allegations and further claimed that Sahi Ram, himself had set the car on fire for publicity.
A senior cop confirmed that two complaints have been registered with Govindpuri police station.
“Statements of the injured persons, belonging to both parties have been recorded and investigation is on in all plausible angles. By late Saturday evening the duo complaints will be converted into a cross-FIR.”
