AAP announces 2nd list, Kejriwal’s name still ‘under consideration’

In its electoral debut in Delhi AAP had fielded only one Muslim candidate from Okhla but in second list on Saturday two seats-Ballimaran and Matia Mahal have been given to the community while decision on Okhla is still pending.

“We are considering the names of five more former MLAs, including Arvind Kejriwal, as remaining five had either opted out or denied the ticket,” said Nagender Sharma, spokesperson of AAP. The party had 28 MLAs in the dismissed Delhi assembly out of which Laxmi Nagar MLA Vinod Kumar Binny had revolted within days of forming government by Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi and subsequently was expelled from the party. With this AAP has fielded 18 former MLAs and 11 other candidates were second or third in the of the the previous Delhi assembly elections. The party dropped its Patel Nagar Ex- MLA Veena Anand and fielded Hazari Lal Chauhan as new candidate.

The former speaker of Delhi assembly and former AAP MLA from Jangpur Maninder Singh Dhir recently joined BJP blaming ‘autocratic’ approach of the party chief.

Two MLAs- Rajesh Garg from Rohini, Harish Khanna from Timarpur opted out while former MLA from Patel Nagar Veena Anand was denied the ticket. According to sources, Veena Anand was dropped reportedly for poor performance but the party maintained she had opted out. Anand could not be contacted. The four ex-MLAs under consideration are- Ashok Kumar from Ambedkar, Akhilesh Pati Tripathi from Model Town, Dharamender Singh from Seemapuri, and Mahinder Yadav from Vikaspuri.

However, Kejriwal has expressed his wish to contest from New Delhi but his name has not been declared so far.

The prominent names in the second list are former Delhi Minister for Education Manish Sisodia from Patpargunj, his colleague Rakhi Birlan from Mangolpuri and senior party leader Gopal Rai from Babarpur assembly segment in East Delhi. The new candidates fielded by the party are- Imran Hussain from Ballimaran, Asim Ahmed Khan from Matia Mahal, Hazari Lal Chauhan from Patel Nagar, Ram Niwas Goel from Shahdara, Mahindra Goel from Rithala and Raghuvendra Shaukeen from Nangloi Jat.
