On February 28, the parents of Lalit, a Class III student, went to the police station to file a missing complaint after searching him in the locality for hours. A missing complaint was filed and his parents told the cops that he was last spotted with his uncle, a neighbour, who lives in Pochanpur area.
After a probe was conducted, 17-year-old Amit (name changed), was quizzed but he did not come up with any confession. On sustained interrogation, he told the police that he along with his friend, who is 16-year-old killed Lalit.
“On the day of the incident, the duo were under the influence of alcohol. They took Lalit to an empty flat in an under-construction building in the area. The duo kidnapped him for ransom. Before demanding ransom, they slit his throat and he succumbed to his injuries few hours later,” a senior police official said.
A source close to investigation said: “There is a possibility that the victim might have been sodomised. It would be clear only after the autopsy report.” After Amit’s confession, his associate was apprehended from Haryana and the duo confessed the crime before disclosing the whereabouts of Lalit’s body to the cops, that was found in a decomposed state on late Tuesday night.
During interrogation, it was learnt that the duo had planned to demand Rs 10 lakh from Lalit’s parents as he was the only child. But their plan failed after Lalit died. In fear of being caught, they did not make any ransom call. They wanted to live a lavish life and wanted to fulfill their addiction to alcohol.
