9-year-old dies while flying kite

A nine-year-old child fell from the roof of his house while flying kites in Adarsh Nagar in northwest Delhi. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead, said a police official.

Sahil (9), went to the terrace of the four-storeyed building, in which he lived with his family, to fly kite on Thursday afternoon. There were no walls on the edges of the building, and hence Sahil’s foot slipped and he fell from the unbound terrace.

Somebody from the building called up the Police Control Room around 3.30 pm. Police went to the scene immediately and rushed the boy to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The police official said, ‘it was an old apartment and the edges were extremely slippery because of the fungus that accumulated after the recent rains. It was purely an accident, and no case of negligence has been registered against the resident cooperative society that is concerned with the maintenance of the building.’

It is not the first time that the national capital has witnessed fatalities due to kite-flying. Last year on 15 August, a 15-year-old boy was beaten to death by two of his competitors in kite flying competition.

In another incident on April 2013, a 17-year-old boy was beaten to death by a group of men after a kite-fight in northeast Delhi.
