Delhi Assembly on Friday formed a nine-member probe panel to investigate financial irregularities and current state of affairs of all the three BJP-ruled MCDs.  The House adopted a motion moved by AAP legislature Somnath Bharti to form a nine-member panel after AAP legislatures with the majority of 67 seats raised issue and pleaded to Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel to take it seriously and formed the committee.

To take on the BJP-ruled MCDs and the Centre, the AAP government led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called two-day special session of the Delhi Assembly. It was called to debate on the functioning of the MCDs and its present state of affairs. During the session, AAP legislatures alleged that, there are huge financial irregularities in all three civic bodies and have completely failed to serve the citizens. They demanded investigation by a panel.

“The committee is formed to inquire into the allegation of rampant corruption and irregularities in municipal corporations, to study the existing setup and to recommend measures to improve its functioning ion all spheres including administration, sanitation, health and education etc,” Goel’s order read. It has also mentioned that the committee is free to enlarge the scope of investigation if needed. The committee was asked to furnish its report before the Delhi Assembly with the commencement of next Assembly session.

It would be pertinent to mention that, this long lasting fight between the Delhi government and municipal corporations had began after the civic bodies failed to pay monthly wages of sanitation workers, claiming financial crunch.
