Nine persons, including five women, have been booked for attempting to set afire two brother-in-laws of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh in Budaun district of  Uttar Pradesh.

Senior superintendent of police Dharamveer Singh said that Shyam Lal and Vijay Pal – the brother-in-laws of Kalyan Singh – had gone to attend a panchayat at Behta Kaura village in Bisauli area last evening. Shyam Lal’s daughter Hansawati was having a dispute with her neighbour Pappu. The latter attempted to set-ablaze both the brothers after dousing them with kerosene when they were attending village panchayat.

The duo were, however, rescued by the villagers who were present there.
