A fire broke out in a flat on the 14th floor of the 21-storey Lake Home co-operative housing society in Chandivali, on Saturday evening killing at least 7 and injuring several others. Fire officials swung into action for the rescue operation. The fire is still not under control, said reports.
Mumbai fire brigade pressed in 15 vehicles and ambulances for the rescue work as the fire spread on the 15th floor.
However, the reason for the breakout of fire was not known. “At present we are concentrating on rescuing the citizens and save their properties. The reason will be investigated later,” said a fire official present on the site.
According to the media reports, so far, 4 people have been rescued from the floors that caught fire. The number of people injured, and people stuck between floors 15 and 21 are still unclear.
Meanwhile, a fire also broke out at the Rahul Nagar slums in Bandra West, where three people were injured out of which one person identified as Shariff (26) sustained 40 per cent burns, while Salma Mandal (24) and Bhanu Sardaar (40) complained of suffocation. All three are admitted in Bandra Bhabha civic hospital.
