62,000 households benefitted under Annashree Yojna: govt

The department of food and supplies, said on Friday that under the ‘Delhi Annashree Yojana’, benefit of Rs. 600 per month has been sanctioned to around 62,000 households so far in 70 circles of Delhi.

The statement came after a section of the mediareported  that the beneficiaries of the ‘Dilli Annashree Yojana’ stands for a mere 7200 families. These reports suggest the scheme has not taken off and the 7200 beneficiaries belong to 19 circles.

The amount under the said scheme is deposited in the Aadhaar-based bank account of the senior-most female head of the family.

Families which are vulnerable and most vulnerable and who are not covered under the Public Distribution System are eligible for benefit under Delhi Annashree Yojana.

The identification of beneficiaries has been meticulously undertaken.Since the reports are quoting earlier data and that too pertaining to 19 circles , it is providing a distorted picture of the current status of Annashree Yojana, department officials said. The department further stated that in addition to the existing figures, around 5,000 beneficiaries under this scheme, have also been identified by the circle-level vigilance committees working under the chairmanship of respective MLAs and widows who are getting widow pension from the department of social welfare. Field verification of these beneficiaries has also been completed.

Officials of the department also said that a Kerosene Free Delhi Scheme is also being implemented by the department and it has been a big success. More than 1,55,000 families have applied for free gas connection, chullah, filled up LPG cylinder under the scheme, and 1,15000 families have already received benefit.
