Around fifty percent of the population of Delhi live in unauthorized colonies and do not have access to basic amenities but about 61.1 percent of Delhiites do have their own houses.
About 88.6 per cent of Delhiites live in homes that are deemed residential, hence are tipped to be legal, while 11 per cent live in houses which are residential-cum-commercial.
This has come to light after a report on “Housing Conditions in Delhi” was prepared by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics based on sample survey conducted under 69th round of National Sample Survey (NSS) during July 2012-December 2012.
“About 51.1 per cent (20.18 lakhs) of the total households are living in independent house, 46.5 per cent (18.36 lakhs) are living in flats and 2.3 per cent are under other categories,” said the report.
About 17.55 per cent (6.93 lakhs) of the total household are having single floor accommodations, 39.07 per cent (15.43 lakhs) are having two floor houses and 42.9 per cent (16.96 lakhs) are having 3-5 floor houses and 0.42 per cent (0.16 lakhs) are living in the houses having 5-10 floors.
As many as 39.48 lakh households comprising about 99.10 per cent of the population reside in pucca houses.
