Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi, on Friday inaugurated the launch of Phablets in 500 PCR vans for seamless connectivity and to reduce the gap between local police and residents of the national Capital. The launch is a joint corporate social responsibility initiative of the Delhi Police and ONGC.
Launching the Phablets, Bassi said it will help in sharing information of a particular beat with the public of the national Capital, adding that it will be a step towards fulfilling the vision of the Prime Minister.
“The PCR staff often needs to make many calls and coordinate at various levels specially in case of taking injured persons to the hospital, tracking missing/stranded children, senior citizens, women in distress and other weaker sections. This requires the staff to make a lot of calls at their personal expenditure. Even for giving spot reports, mobile phones are used as wireless network. In repeated sampark sabhas, grievance was highlighted by the staff about substantial financial expenditure at their level for official purpose,” said a senior police official in the PCR. Search was made for an advanced gadget to match the aim of smart policing — combining videography, storage of data related to missing persons, stolen vehicles, direct interfacing of call taker at Control Room with I/c MPV’s etc. ONGC showed willingness to provide Phablets that would reduce the response time especially in case of women callers in distress and road accident victims.
“After intensive training of staff, 500 Phablets have been distributed across 11 PCR zones. This technology will go a long way in reducing response time to all kinds of distress calls,” the official added.
