Two separate incidents of rape have been reported in the capital. In the first incident, a five-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by an unidentified man in north-east Delhi’s New Seemapuri area. In the second incident, a mother of two children was raped by her neighbour, who was later arrested in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj (north).

According to police, the first incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, when the victim was playing outside her home. An unidentified bike-borne assailant approached the girl and abducted her. He then took her to an isolated place, where he raped her.

The girl was left at the same spot and the accused escaped. A passerby noticed the girl lying unconscious in a pool of blood and he informed the police. ‘When cops reached the crime scene, they immediately took the girl to a nearby hospital. After her condition became stable, a medical examination was conducted that confirmed rape,’ the official added.

A case under sections 376 (rape) and 365 (kidnapping) of Indian Penal Code has been registered against the unknown person. ‘A sketch has been prepared with the help of the girl’s description. Further investigation is on to nab the culprit,’ the official said.

In the other incident, a married woman in her late thirties was raped by her neighbour, identified as Khem Chand, on Tuesday evening. The accused who was arrested by police found the woman alone at home as her husband had gone to office. Both children were sleeping and he managed to enter her residence.

Early on Wednesday, when the victim’s husband returned home from work, she narrated the incident to him, who later informed police. ‘Cops have arrested the accused from his residence in Vasant Kunj, where he lives alone in a rented house,’ the official said.
