The Special Staff of Delhi Police arrested five persons in connection with the daylight robbery in Gandhi Nagar where an employee of a garment firm was robbed of Rs 6 lakh cash and Demand Drafts worth Rs 37 lakhs.
The accused have been identified as Mohd Tahseem, Gulzar, Kalicharan, Mohd Mazid and Mohd Nazim. With their arrest, police solved seven more robbery cases. Police recovered Rs 1.5 lakh cash and the Maruti Hyundai i10 which the accused bought from the stolen money. However, police are yet to recover the rest of the cash as it is with one of the accused, Farukh who is still absconding.
On June 26, at around 5.30 pm, Shyaam Mohan Tiwari, employee of a readymade garments firm was robbed by bike-borne men of Rs 6 lakh cash and DD worth Rs 37 lakh. While coming back to office after taking payments, he was intercepted by the bikers and robbed of the bag. He was also beaten up. Tiwari works for the garment firm owned by Deepak Gambhir, cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s father.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC at the Gandhi Nagar police station. During investigation, based on technical surveillance and local intelligence, police traced down the accused to be members of a gang located in Khajoori Khas. A trap was laid and the all the five accused were apprehended.
