A 45-year-old woman was lynched to death by some of her neighbours after a quarrel broke out between the two over the grazing of a cow at Mohonnagar village in Murshidabad on Tuesday.
Police have detained two women in this connection so far. Police said that the victim Sitarani Mondal, who was a housewife, had engaged in a quarrel with some other women over grazing her cow on a piece of land.
They asked the victim not to tie the cow with the pillar on the particular piece of land but Sitarani did not listen to what they said. Sitarani’s husband has alleged that while the quarrel was going on other women pounced on her and beat her up thoroughly.
The local people later rushed to the spot and rescued the woman. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died later.
