Facing flak for not being able to make any headway in identifying the assailants even after four days of TCS engineer Ankit Chauhan’s murder, Noida police have released a sketch of the suspect on Thursday. The district police, which is yet to find out the exact cause of the gruesome murder of the 26-year-old techie, also declared a reward of Rs 50,000 for any information regarding the suspect. The police have also outlined a sketch with the help of CCTV footage installed in the area where the murder took place.
Ankit, an engineer working with the IT giant TCS in Noida, was shot down by four unidentified criminals in Noida’s Sector 76 on Monday evening. Police had said that the engineer was attacked when he was on his way along with his friend Gagan Dhudhoria to his residence at Sector 77 in a Fortuner car. He was admitted to ICU at Kailash hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Ankit, a permanent resident of Meerut district, had recently shifted to Prateek Wisteria Apartment in Noida’s Sector 77. He had married to Amisha Chauhan, a software engineer working with IT company Accenture in the city, in March this year. With mounting pressure for not cracking the case, the Noida cops had detained two of his friends including a cousin as the family had raised doubts on them but in vain. Police are also claiming to have conducted raids at various parts in Western UP, vigorously scanning CCTV footages of the area to solve the murder mystery.
“Earlier, we had formed three teams which have been conducting raids in Gautam Budh Nagar, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and other districts. We also questioned Gagan, who was with Ankit when the incident occurred, and Abhishek, Ankit’s cousin who had earlier threatened to kill him owing to a property dispute. Now, we have prepared a sketch with the help of experts and are searching for the suspect,” said RK Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Noida). The police teams have also been sent to Meerut, Ankit’s native, to question Amisha Chauhan and other family members.
“We have scrutinised call details of both Ankit and Amish. We are also trying to know whether the family has enmity with anyone in Meerut or not.”
