35th handicrafts fair registers 4,210 buyers

The 35th edition of Asia’s largest and most sought after sourcing platform – Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF-Spring) 2013 – registered a  footfall of aroubd 4,210 buyers, including big buying houses from over 40 countries.  Business worth over Rs 735 crore is expected to be generated during the four-day exposition, which concluded on Monday.

A large number of buyers came from the US, UK, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Spain, Greece, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, China, Turkey, Hungry, Oman, Bulgaria, Singapore,  Israel, Portugal, Sweden, Mexico, Denmark, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE,  Netherlands, S Africa, LAC, CIS and many other countries.

IHGF-Spring 2013, organised by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH),  received an overwhelming response from foreign as well as Indian companies. A total of 2,443 participants, including 558 from Uttar Pradesh, 516 from New Delhi and North, 356 from Rajasthan, 53 from West, 38 from East and 22 from South besides 900 permanent marts, showcased  a wide variety of handicraft products at the show.

More than 1,000 types of varieties of handcrafted products, comprising houseware, decoratives and gifts, home textiles, furnishing and floor coverings, furniture and accessories, jewellery and fashion accessories, Christmas decorations, incense, cane and bamboo and home textiles were put on display, covering the entire complex of India Expo Centre.

Handicrafts exports registered an increase of 39.64 per cent during the first 10 (April-January) months of the financial year  2012-13, compared to the previous corresponding period.  The exports during first ten months of the current fiscal were to the tune of Rs 12,556.45 crore, up by Rs 3,564.33 crore. Further, export target of Rs. 15,500 crore (USD 3,300 million) during 2012-13 is expected to be surpassed.
