About 31 kg of heroin of Afghan origin, destined to reach the Khari Baoli market – the largest dry fruit market in India – of Chandni Chowk, was seized by the Delhi Zonal Unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), officials said on Saturday.

According to an Narcotics Control Bureauofficial, the heroin was found hidden among black raisins imported from Afghanistan. And the packets of black raisins were concealed in four wooden boxes in a warehouse at Sonepat in Haryana, which was raided by NCB sleuths based on a special intelligence input, on Thursday.

‘The heroin was stuffed in packets covered with layers of polythene and carbon paper and each of the 31 packets recovered weighed around 1 kg. Wrapping the packets in polythene and carbon paper is a very common ploy used by traffickers in order to evade the scanning devices on international borders,’ said a senior Narcotics Control Bureau official.
