Unknown assailants in south-east Delhi stole batteries from no less than at least 30 cars only from the Kalkaji area in a single night. The incident took place late on Sunday night. So far, no one has been arrested.

According to many residents of Giri Nagar in Kalkaji, they simply found the batteries missing the next morning.

‘Around 8.30 am, I started my Swift car was parked in front of my residence. Even after several attempts, the car did not start. Then I realised that the battery was missing. I  had bought the battery last week only,’ said Rakesh Kumar, a victim.

Kumar added, ‘I informed my family about the theft. Meanwhile, my neighbour came out and found his car’s battery missing as well. We informed the Residents Welfare Association and Delhi police about the incident. Several other victims also gathered around with the same complaint.’

‘After receiving the PCR call, cops reached the crime spot within a few minutes. It was found that more than 30 batteries were missing from the cars  parked at Giri Nagar. We have registered a case against unknown assailants under appropriate sections of Indian Penal Code,’ a police official said.

‘There was no CCTV camera installed in the colony so it is a blind case for us with no evidence. But we are investigating the matter and soon will nab the culprits,’ the official added.

‘The residents were angry after this major theft  despite the fact that they spend a lot of money on security. A protest demonstration was carried out with the slogans that were against RWA and Delhi police,’ said Alok Kumar, another victim.

Farookh, Secretary of RWA, said, ‘This is not the first time that residents of Giri Vihar have faced such an incident. It is purely the fault of Delhi police.’
