The incident was reported from JSS Academy of Technical Education (JSSATE) on Thursday morning.
Angry over the incident, hundreds of students held demonstrations demanding penal action against accused.
The incident was reported at around 7.30 am when B Tech students of ISH girls hostel spotted three cameras in their bathroom. The girls broke the cameras and informed the matter to the college authorities. As news spread around the campus, other students tool looked for cameras in their respective rooms.
Following the incident, hundreds of students assembled at the campus and held protest. The college authorities too reached the protest site but failed to defuse the tension.
The situation was normalised when college authority agreed to lodge complaint. ‘As I received information, I informed higher authorities and informed police. I have lodged a complaint from my side seeking proper investigation into the case,’ said JS Jagadish, caretaker of the hostel.
Police officials were deployed inside the college and media was prohibited from entering the campus. Meanwhile, an FIR has also been lodged against unidentified persons at Sector 58 police station.
As police reached the campus, the hostel was sealed and the cameras were seized for further investigation.
‘We have registered a case and have recorded the statement of students and employees of ISH hostel. We are also scanning the CCTV footage and are analysing the details of visitors, to identify the accused,’ said a police official investigating the case.
The college have also formed a committee to enquire the matter.
However, the girls have alleged it to be an insider’s job. ‘We are sure that the employees working here are involved in this act. No outsider is allowed in the college campus. The accused has to be brought to book at the earliest, said an agitating girl.
