In a tragic incident a businessman along with his two associates were killed in a road accident on Tuesday night when an overloaded dumper overturned on the car in South Delhi’s Outer Ring Road. The errant driver is yet to be arrested.
According to police, the accident took place at around 11 pm when a silver color Hyundai Accent car slowed down near a petrol pump on the Outer Ring Road. In the meantime, a speeding dumper, bearing a Haryana registration number, applied brakes and lost its control on the wheels. The dumper immediately overturned on the car in which three occupants were sitting.
One of the eye-witness made a call to the police and the fire department who reached the spot. The car was completely crushed under the dumper and was covered in wet sand that the dumper was carrying. According to the eye-witnesses, the dumper was overloaded which resulted in the accident. After the rescue operation was started with the help of a JCB machine, the three occupants were brought out and were immediately rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
The doctors at AIIMS declared all the three victims dead on arrival. At the time of the accident, Rajeev Suri (52) was driving the car and his two associates, identified as Rupesh (30) and Babloo (25) were sitting in the car. All the three are said to be residents of South-east Delhi’s Kalkaji area. On Tuesday evening they had gone to Bhiwani area for a business meeting and at around 11 pm they were returning home when the accident took place.
“The driver of the dumper managed to escape from the spot but he has been captured on the CCTV cameras installed at the petrol pump. We are trying to establish his identity and attempts are being made to arrest him soon,” a police official close to investigation said.
On Wednesday morning, after the post-mortem examination was conducted, the bodies were handed over to their families. Meanwhile, a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station.
