3 charge-sheets filed against OP Sharma and lawyers

Delhi Police filed three separate charge-sheets accusing three lawyers and suspended BJP legislator O P Sharma for violence in the Patiala House Courts complex in February. The police earlier registered four separate First Information Reports (FIR) on February 15 and 17 for causing violence at the Patiala House Courts complex. It was alleged that some lawyers were involved in the attack on mediapersons and JNU students, including then arrested JNU Student Union (JNUSU) president, Kanhaiya Kumar.

Delhi Police filed the three charge-sheets on July 19 before Metropolitan Magistrate, Snigdha Sarvaria, who slated the matter on September 22 for consideration. In the first charge-sheet filed on February 15 where journalists were assaulted, police accused three lawyers, namely, Vikram Singh Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma on various charges dealing with riots, criminal intimidation, causing hurt and mischief and also alleged that the three lawyers were instigating the mob that attacked journalists.

The second charge-sheet was filed against suspended legislator O P Sharma who was allegedly involved in assaulting a CPI activist outside the court on February 15. BJP leader, O P Sharma has been charge-sheeted under various charges dealing with voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and common intention.

The third charge-sheet was filed on the February 17 incident against Vikram Singh Chauhan and Yashpal Sharma for assaulting an advocate inside the Patiala House Courts Complex. Police have cited CCTV footage where the three lawyers and Sharma were caught in action.
