A 24-year-old psycho killer, who had allegedly murdered four persons including his gang leader, a dismissed constable of ITBP, in a span of 10 days in Baghpat area, has been arrested by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch, police said on Wednesday.
“Rohit Kumar (the psycho killer), a native of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh had joined a gang headed by Prince in the recent past. Since then Kumar had killed four persons including his gang leader Prince,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch). Kumar had also committed two highway robberies on November 23 and December 23, last year.
In a bid to lead the gang in his own way, he eliminated Prince who was already having a criminal background. Prince was a dismissed constable of ITBP and a wanted criminal of Uttar Pradesh. More than a dozen of criminal cases were registered against him.
According to sources in Baghpat Police, Prince and Kumar became good friends and the duo used to kill many innocent persons for no reason.
“In many such incidents, the duo has killed people only because they did not like them at a glance. On the eve of Karva Chauth, Prince killed a 26-year-old girl because she kept a fast for her husband and not for him,” the source added.
“The tuning of Prince and Kumar was famous among the rival gangs of Baghpat. The members of other gangs cultivated Kumar against Prince and asked to eliminate him so that he can become the gang leader,” a police official in Delhi Police said. He further added that on January 6, Kumar killed 67-year-old Prince and his body was found in the bushes of a village in Ramala district in Baghpat.
Kumar was also wanted in a police encounter case when he along with Prince had opened fire at a police team who conducted a raid to nab the duo. According to police, they had received information that Kumar would come near Keshav Puram Metro station to meet his associates to commit a crime.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and Kumar was arrested by a team of the crime branch. A country-made pistol, by which he was threatened the cops to avert the arrest, was also recovered from him, police said.
