A young girl committed suicide at the Dilshad Garden Metro station by jumping off the platform at around 3pm. The girl has been identified as 23-year-old Meenakshi who hailed from a remote village on the outskirts of Delhi.
The girl was reportedly in the city to meet her brother. At the time of the incident, she was standing at the metro station along with her brother. Her move to jump off was so swift that neither her brother nor any of the commuters present at the station could stop her.
The police rushed her to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital in East Delhi where she was declared brought dead.
The police suspect family tension to be the reason behind the extreme step. A case was registered at the Shastri Nagar police station.
According to a police officer, ‘The family was going through a phase of tension as the girl’s brother had married another girl outside his caste.The family was in shock and feared shame.’
The family was worried over how they will face people in their village. Police suspect, Meenakshi came to Delhi to talk to her brother regarding the issue and committed suicide out of her helplessness.
The girl’s family, friends and relatives are being questioned to ascertain the reason of the suicide. The postmortem examination report is still awaited.
