Delhi Police on Tuesday rescued 23 children workers, aged between ten and 17, with the help of an NGO, from five garment factories in Kabir Nagar of northeast Delhi.
All five factories have been sealed and three of the owners were also arrested. ‘Our NGO, Childline Delhi Brotherhood Society (East) had received information about more than a dozen children working as labourers at certain factories in Kabir Nagar area in north-east Delhi,’ informed Yashudas,’ coordinator of the NGO. He further said that they informed the matter to police which ‘planned to raid the factories in the presence of labour officials and sub-divisional magistrate of Shahadra.
He also added that all the rescued children hail from Uttar Pradesh and they are aged between ten and 17.
The rescued children were later sent to the Mukti Ashram rehabilitation centre for children. The child workers were involved in stitching of cloths at the factories.
