21-year-old DU student alleges rape by traffic constable

A 21-year-old girl, who is a student of the Delhi University has alleged that she was raped by a Delhi traffic police constable on the pretext of marriage.

The accused was detained by police on Thursday. The incident was reported from the Samai Pur Badli area in the outer fringes of the national capital. The victim alleged that the constable
Giriraj Singh (23), befriended her and raped her around two months ago in a hotel at outer Delhi on the pretext of marriage.

Giriraj Singh is a resident of Ghaziabad, and was posted at the Samai Pur Badli since 2013. She also informed police that she did not report the incident for so long because she perceived a threat from the accused, said a source.

But on Wednesday, the girl went to the police station and filed an FIR against the traffic constable.
She has  also been sent for the medical examination to confirm the sexual assault.

‘We have recorded the statement of the girl and detained the accused on Thursday from his residence at Ghaziabad. He is currently under intensive interrogation,’ said a police official.
