2 postal staff convicted for cheating

A CBI court here has sentenced two employees of the Postal Department to three years rigorous imprisonment in a cheating case filed by the investigating agency. Additional Special Judge of the CBI court K Paramaraj awarded three years rigorous imprisonment to Royapettah Post Office postal assistant Mohammed Maqdoom and postal assistant C Natarajan in a cheating case amounting to Rs 35 lakh in 2012. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on them, a CBI release said. It said Natarajan, on directions from Maqdoom, opened a savings bank account in a public sector bank ‘by impersonating’ R Natarajan, who had deposits in Royapettah Post Office.
