Two contract killers, who allegedly tried to eliminate the owner of a transport company in northwest Delhi last month, have been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
The accused – Joginder and Jeetu – were arrested on a tip-off from Shanti Van Road, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint CP (Crime Branch).
According to the police, Joginder is involved in over 100 cases of theft, robbery and dacoity. He is also involved in cases under the Arms Act. Besides, Joginder was involved in firing at a police party in Khyala in 2010, the officer said.
The duo was involved in firing at the car of Santosh Kumar Tripathy, who owns a transport company, on the night of August 25 when he was going to Daya Basti from his office in Bhalswa Dairy, he said.
The duo told the police that Tripathy’s relative Dashrath Mishra had asked them to eliminate him. Mishra had allegedly promised to pay Rs 5 lakh to them for the work and they had already received Rs 50,000 as advance.
They told the police that Mishra, who worked in Tripathy’s company, was recently thrown out of job. Besides, Tripathy had insulted Mishra in front of other staff, which infuriated him. Jeetu was driving the scooty when Joginder shot at Tripathy, the officer said.
