The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested two men for allegedly damaging two PCR vans and opening fire at police officials (in the vehicles). Two country-made pistols and four live cartridges were recovered from their possession, police said.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sabir Ali, 30, and Javed, 28 -- both residents of Faridabad.
The police said in September last year, a PCR van in-charge noticed a suspicious Tata 407 van on the Mehrauli-Badarpur road. When he asked the Tata 407 van driver to stop, he allegedly rammed the PCR van and sped past towards Mehrauli. When the PCR van chased the vehicle, passengers of the Tata 407 pelted stones on it, in which its windowpanes were damaged.
The PCR official fired three rounds in self defence and informed the control room about the incident. On receiving an alert, another PCR van traced the Tata 407 near the MB Road shooting range. When officials of this PCR van tried to stop the Tata van, those seated in the van pelted stones at the police vehicle and damaged it. The police had to fire seven rounds at the Tata van. However, the van driver again managed to flee, police said.
On April 13, information was received about those who had opened fire at the PCR van and a team was constituted. A trap was laid and the accused were spotted in a Honda City car near the MB Road and Anandmai Marg intersection. Seeing the police team, the accused tried to flee this time too, but in vain.
